Essential Du’as to recite during Umrah: Duas for Umrah

Performing Umrah is a journey of the heart toward Allah. At every step, a pilgrim remembers Allah. In Ihram, Tawaf, Sa’i, and Halq, Muslims recite du’as for Umrah that bring peace and strengthen iman. Some are from the Qur’an and Sunnah, while others can be in your own simple words. What matters is sincerity. A clean heart and honest du’a are more valuable than long recitations without meaning.

Essential Du’as to recite during Umrah

Note: Always purify your intention (niyyah) first, and recite these du’as with understanding and focus. You may also make your own personal du’as in any language.

List of 10 essential Duas to perform during Umrah

Reciting duas during Umrah is part of the spiritual journey. Pilgrims from Bangladesh often look for easy references so they can remember the right words at the right place. When you wear Ihram and make niyyah, there is a du’a. During Tawaf and Sa’i, there are also different du’as. Each step has its own prayer that brings barakah and makes you feel close to Him. Here are some important du’as every pilgrim should know in Umrah.

01

Du’a before starting the Umrah journey

This du’a helps you place your trust in Allah from the outset. Before embarking on your Umrah trip, it is recommended to recite:

  • Arabic:
    “بِسْمِ اللهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ عَلَى اللهِ، وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ”
  • Transliteration: Bismillah, tawakkaltu ‘alallāh, wa lā ḥawla wa lā quwwata illā billāh.
  • Meaning (approximate): “I begin with the Name of Allah; I trust in Allah; there is no changing of conditions except by Allah’s Power.”
02

Du’a for intention (Niyyah) of Umrah & Entering Ihram + Talbiyah

Once you reach the Miqat (boundary) and prepare to enter Ihram, perform the two raka’ahs of Sunnah (if applicable), then make your niyyah and start reciting Talbiyah continuously.

Du’a for intention (Niyyah):

“اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أُرِيدُ الْعُمْرَةَ فَيَسِّرْهَا لِي وَتَقَبَّلْهَا مِنِّي”
  • Transliteration: Allahumma innī urīdu al-‘umrah, fayassir-hā lī wa taqabbal-hā minnī.
  • Meaning: “O Allah, I intend to perform Umrah. Make it easy for me and accept it from me.”

Talbiyah (repeat often):

Continue reciting the Talbiyah from the moment you enter Ihram until you begin Tawaf.

  • Arabic:
    “لَبَّيْكَ اللهُمَّ لَبَّيْكَ لَبَّيْكَ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ لَبَّيْكَ إِنَّ الْحَمْدَ وَالنِّعْمَةَ لَكَ وَالْمُلْكُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَكَ”
  • Transliteration: Labbayka Allahumma Labbayk.
  • Meaning: “Here I am at Your service, O Allah, here I am. Here I am. You have no partner, here I am. Verily, all praise, blessing, and sovereignty belong to You. You have no partner.”
03

Du’a upon arrival

Upon arriving at your destination, recite:

“أَعُوْذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللّٰهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ”
  • Transliteration: A’uzu bikalimatillahit-t’ammati min sharri ma khalaq.

Du’a to start Tawaf & during Tawaf

Then begin circumambulating Allah’s House. During each circuit, you may recite any du’a, dhikr, Quran, or salutations (salawāt).

Intention and opening of Tawaf

When you stand before the Black Stone (Hajr al-Aswad) to begin Tawaf:

  • Arabic:
    “بِسْمِ اللَّهِ اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، وَلِلَّهِ الْحَمْدُ”
  • Transliteration: Bismillāh, Allāhu akbar, wa lillāhi al-ḥamd
  • Meaning: “In the name of Allah, Allah is the Greatest, and all praise is for Allah.”

Du’a between the Yemeni Corner and Black Stone

When passing between the Rukn al-Yamani and Hajr al-Aswad, it is a sunnah to recite:

  • Arabic:
    “رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ”
  • Transliteration: Rabbana ātinā fid-dunyā ḥasanatan wa fil-ākhirati ḥasanatan wa qinā ‘adhāba-n-nār.
  • Meaning: “Our Lord, grant us good in this world, and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.”
  • Note: You may also offer other heartfelt du’as during the rest of your circuits.

Istilām (Touching or Kissing the Black Stone)

At the end of each circuit (or when possible), perform istilām of the Black Stone by touching, kissing, or pointing toward it (if you cannot reach). You may say:

09

Du’a during Sa‘ee (Between Safa and Marwah)

  • Meaning: “In the name of Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger. O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty.”
  • Note: This closes the cycle of your Umrah rituals while maintaining humility and gratitude.

Tips to maximize your Du’as during Umrah

Tips to maximize your Du’as during Umrah
  • Understand what you recite. Knowing the meaning helps deepen the connection.
  • Use quiet moments. Between circuits, when in the Multazam, or when seated, these are precious times.
  • Make personal du’as. Don’t limit yourself to the above; ask Allah for whatever is on your heart.
  • Be consistent. Recite the Talbiyah, du’as, and dhikr as much as you can from entering Ihram until the rituals conclude.
  • Focus on presence, not speed. Even a few heartfelt words with concentration are more valuable than many without awareness.

Duas for Umrah: A connection with Allah

Umrah is not just a set of steps. It is standing before Allah with a clean heart. You can read du’as from Qur’an and Sunnah, but the strongest ones are often the simple words you say yourself. A prayer made with feeling and honesty is worth more than long recitations without meaning. That is the real beauty of Umrah.

FAQ’s on Du'as for Umrah

When you wear the Ihram, just keep it simple. Say the Talbiyah: “Labbayk Allahumma Umrah.” After that, you don’t need long words — just ask Allah in your own way. Say what is in your heart: that he accepts your Umrah and gives you the strength to finish it properly.

There is no fixed du’a for Tawaf except between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone, where you recite: “Rabbana atina fid-dunya hasanah wa fil-akhirati hasanah wa qina ‘adhaban-nar” (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:201). At other times, you may recite the Qur’an or make personal supplications.

When you reach Safa, face the Kaʿbah and recite: “Inn-as-Safa wal-Marwata min sha’a’irillah” (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:158). Then raise your hands and say Allahu Akbar three times before making du’a.

Of course, you can pray in Arabic. But if you don’t know, just use your own language. Allah understands every word. The main thing is that you ask with a clean heart.

After Halq or Taqsir (cutting hair), you can thank Allah and recite: “Alhamdulillahi rabbil ‘alamin”. Many pilgrims also pray for forgiveness, family, rizq, and the Ummah at this time.
